September Day 30 Year 2008

Do Not Underestimate The Power Of Prayer

A young university student was home for the summer. She had gone to visit some friends one evening and time passed quickly as each shared their various experiences of the past year. She ended up staying longer than planned and had to walk home alone. She was not afraid because it was a small town and she lived only a few blocks away. As she walked along under the tall elm trees, Diane asked God to keep her safe from danger and harm. When she reached the alley, which was a shortcut to her house, she decided to take it. However, halfway down the alley she noticed a man standing at the end as though he were waiting for her. She became uneasy and began to pray, asking for God's protection. Instantly, a comforting feeling of quietness and security wrapped around her and she felt as though someone was walking with her. When she reached the end of the alley, she walked right past the man and arrived home safely.

The following day, she read in the newspaper that a young girl had been raped in the same alley just twenty minutes after she had been there. Feeling overwhelmed by this tragedy and the fact that it could have been her, she began to weep, thanking the Lord for her safety. To help this young girl, she decided to go to the police station. She felt that she could recognise the man and she told the police her story. The police asked her if she would be willing to look at a lineup to see if she could identify him. She agreed and immediately pointed out the man she had seen in the alley the night before. When the man was told he had been identified, he immediately broke down and confessed. The officer thanked Diane for her bravery and asked if there was anything they could do for her. She asked if they would ask the man one question? Diane was curious as to why he had not attacked her. When the policeman asked him, he answered, "Because she wasn't alone. She had two tall men walking on either side of her."

September Day 28 Year 2008

21 September 2008, Sunday

The speaker was not bad for this morning’s sermon in church. After church, I drove my dad down to the market to eat breakfast and buy fish before going home for a swim. I had a good swim, but I think my stamina is not very good in the water, so I have to keep training to improve on my cardio. Tonight, dinner will be at grandma’s house as my mum suggested it.

22 September 2008, Monday

Bilson and Chor Boon came for work, so we had lunch together at subway. The food there was great and all except for the price. Anyway, after work, I went straight down for bowling training with Chor Boon. Actually, not straight down because I had to walk to Aljunied train station to take my bowling shoes which I left at home. This made Bilson and Chor Boon a little irritated, but they still followed me instead of walking to Paya Lebar train station which was much nearer. Thanks to them for accompanying me. Bowling training was not bad, as I managed to correct my steps and slide. Now, I have to work on my bending of my knee, my release, and my sparing, which I am not very consistent at.

23 September 2008, Tuesday

I lunched with my bosses at the hawker centre nearby. The famous hor fun stall was not open so I had to eat fishball noodles, which was satisfactory in terms of taste. Work was fun as I was quite free, so I went to attempt brain teasers online and it kind of drained me a little.

24 September 2008, Wednesday

Arsenal won 6-0 in the Carling Cup Round 3. I am so proud of them, and what’s more it is the reserve team that are playing and they are the youngest ever side to be playing, with an average age of just 19. Carlos Vela scored a hat-trick, Nicklas Bendtner got a brace, and Jack Wilshere bagged his first goal for the club. I believe Arsenal can go all the way to win the Carling Cup.

25 September 2008, Thursday

Another day that my boss treated me lunch again and I ate fried rice. Work was as per normal and I cannot wait for the weekend to come so that I can meet up with my friends to go to the gym and also go for a run.

26 September 2008, Friday

Friday is great because it is the last day of work for the week. I went out with my family for a dinner costing $130.00 odd at a seafood restaurant. We had broccoli with scallops, chicken, crab, tofu, and seafood mee goreng. I enjoyed the chicken and the crab most. I ate until I could hardly move. Enough said, because I am going to watch the Grand Prix now although I know nothing much about it.

27 September 2008, Saturday

3.5 km run was good for me even though it was so scorching hot. I complete it in about twenty minutes or less. After that, I went to the gym with Chor Boon and Mou Wei. I finally did a complete set on the dumbbells and it is definitely a torture for my muscles. Nevertheless, I still held on and completed the routine. I think I am going for a swim later in the evening after watching a movie since it is too hot now.

we just keep training for now and achieve when we are ready

September Day 21 Year 2008

14 September 2008, Sunday

Attending the KPE 10 km run was a very good experience. It was the first time I get to run a 10 km distance. I got up around six to make my way down to meet up with Mou Wei and Terence for the run at Kovan train station. We went to queue up to take the shuttle bus to the tunnel, and boy, the queue was so long that it stretched from the bus interchange all the way to the hawker centre. Luckily the bus frequency was good, so we managed to get to the tunnel before the event started. After stretching, the race started and was flagged off by either the president or the minister, which I could not see properly being way behind the starting line.

One hour and eleven minutes passed, I crossed the finish line. For me, I can take this as an achievement as this is the first 10 km run I attempted. Mou Wei finished first among the three of us, followed by me, then Terence. We left the event immediately as it was very stuffy in the tunnel and the ventilation was really bad. We walked some distance out before taking a cab down to Kovan train station to eat at the nearby hawker centre. The fish porridge I ate tasted so horrible and it was Terence’s recommendation. I shall not talk about it. I went home to catch some sleep before going to church in the evening. The service was remarkable and I am blessed by the word of God.

15 September 2008, Monday

I headed straight for bowling training right after work without having my dinner. Training was so bad that I felt like a person learning how to bowl instead of someone trying to improve on the hook. For the last few weeks, I was alright with the hook. However, for this week, I cannot execute the hook properly. I really need to relax and put my one hundred and one percent into training to get everything right.

16 September 2008, Tuesday

Work, work, and more work. Lunch time, I had lunch with my bosses and we ate at the coffee shop across the road. The food there is all "cannot make it" type, so I am not going there again.

17 September 2008, Wednesday

Although I have to work in the morning, I was free from work this morning. My bosses were working while I was busy surfing the internet and doing some reading. Tomorrow, I plan to read up more on Christianity. If I have more time, I will read up on aircrafts, which I declare as my new found interest.

18 September 2008, Thursday

Bilson and Chor Boon joined me at work since the company decided to hire them to do some filing. Poor them, if I am not wrong their contract only last for two days or maybe three. After that, they will have to leave the company.

19 September 2008, Friday

Both my bosses brought me out for lunch and we ate for two hours at "The Seafood Paradise Restaurant". We had seven dishes including the dessert, namely, butter crab, fried chicken, scallops with asparagus, seafood noodles, and steamed fish. I had a great time eating with them, and I enjoyed the butter crab the most. They gave me half of the crab to eat because they could not finish it. Work was simple and I had a great day because of the yummy food.

20 September 2008, Saturday

Camp afterglow taught me to set some sort of goals for my spiritual walk with God. I plan to focus more on my quiet time with God and cut down on procrastinating. Lunch was provided and we had Japanese food catered. I love Japanese food. Unfortunately, it was not sushi and the food was a little too salty. I shall not complain since it is free. I also got to catch up with my friends I got to know through ODDinary Camp and got to know new people from my school too.

Once the afterglow programme was over, I headed straight down to school to use the gym together with Chor Boon and Mou Wei. After using the gym, Mou Wei and I went to Novena square to sign up for the Real Run organised by New Balance.

September Day 14 Year 2008

07 September 2008, Sunday

Surely my driving skills have improved over the months since I got my license (this is so random). Anyway, I attended traditional service with daddy and mummy. Both of them dozed off during the message and I caught them red-handed. I was being respectful to the pastor by staying alert and awake throughout the message even though I have to admit that it was not really the type of message I would find interesting.

Later in the day, I drove down to Suntec City with daddy, mummy, and my brother to do some grocery shopping at Carrefour. I really enjoy shopping at Suntec City because of the wide range of shops there and I love the crowd for no particular reason. I just find the place happening when there is a large crowd. We got home in the evening just before the sun set.

08 September 2008, Monday

My manager came back to work after being away for a week because she was on a business trip. I went for lunch with her and another colleague. I ate fishball noodles and it was totally tasteless. I will never eat from that stall again, I promise. Well, probably I will eat that stall again if there is a promotion like a half price off or something (I better stop dreaming as the inflation will never allow this to happen). For one dollar plus, maybe I will only get three fishballs, or only the soup with some spring onions.

09 September 2008, Tuesday

Work is starting to get a little more hectic. Time seems to get by really slowly that I can just drop dead counting down the minutes to the time I get to go home. It seems that the money is harder to earn with the inflation and all. The last time I was working here, the work given to me was more manageable and the workload was definitely lighter. Now, the workload I have is piling up so fast that I have to accelerate my working speed or I will never get anything done. I just hope that I get a little breather in the coming days.

10 September 2008, Wednesday

Can someone remind me to be more attentive in office? I messed up some of the work my manager gave me to do. Luckily, she did not flare up or anything close to that. The supposed to be good at work me made a mess of the work assigned to me, thus I could not live up to that name. Tomorrow, I promise I will be more alert and pay closer attention to my manager’s instructions so that I will not leave a bad impression when I leave this place. I will want to come back again, so I better be at my best.

11 September 2008, Thursday

Nothing interesting happened throughout the day. I just buried myself in the work I have to do and the work load took away my boredom. Time pass a little faster compared to yesterday. Tomorrow, I will be going for ODDinary Camp at Bukit Gombak. It is going to be a long journey down from the office, but to attend the camp is definitely worth it.

12 September 2008, Friday

Work, work and work from morning till evening before heading down to the west for ODDinary Camp, which is at Bukit Gombak. The journey there took close to an hour, and the train was so packed that I could hardly stand straight to have my personal space to breathe. I arrived around the same time as Daniel as we planned to meet up for dinner.

After arriving at the camp, I attended the talk first before mixing around and getting to know my group members. The night game was held in the forest near the camp site, and the objective of the game is to go around the forest and search for ice cream sticks. To put it into simple words, the night game was like treasure hunt. When the night game was over it was already close to twelve midnight. Therefore, I went straight to bathe before going to sleep as I was beat.

13 September 2008, Saturday

Sleeping for around five hours or so, I got up to find my shoes soaked in the rain. That immediately spoilt my day as I wanted to wear my shoes to go to the gym later in the afternoon. I immediately messaged my friend to help me bring a pair of shoes since I could not get my own shoes dry in time. The verdict is that I have to wear my frictionless slippers until I meet up with my friend later.

As the sleeping area was on the second storey, I have to climb up and down the slippery flight of stairs which is covered with rainwater. The first few climbs were manageable until the last time when I was carrying my bag to bring it downstairs, I slipped and fell down when nearing the ground. My reaction was quick enough and my hand grabbed the sides of the stairs to prevent myself from falling. Unfortunately, my right leg went straight into the sides of the stairs and got a few bruises. First aid was immediately called upon by my friends, who witness my fall nearby. Thankfully the injuries were minor and I could still proceed with my gym workout as planned. Praise the Lord, for all that He has done for me and my poor leg.

True Friendship

Once in a lifetime,
You find a friend,
Who touches not only your heart,
But also your soul.

Once in a lifetime,
You discover someone,
Who stands beside you,
Not over you.

Once in a lifetime,
If you are lucky,
You find someone,
As I have found you.

Very special people,
We can be ourselves with,
Talk with, laugh with,
Hope with and believe with.

September Day 07 Year 2008

31 August 2008, Sunday

Believe it or not? I actually spam call Tse Yun more than fifty over times before I could get her to crawl out of bed. In the process, my handphone battery nearly went dead and we missed the first service. I got to Suntec City in time to queue up for the second service and reserve a seat for her and myself while she cabbed down. The message seemed longer than usual and we caught many people dozing off.

The "RSAF Open House" was an eye opener. I went there to meet my father and he took me through the exhibitions and told me many interesting facts. Being a pilot is so cool, as you get to fly sophisticated aircrafts and operate on the most advance weapons. At the same time, you are protecting the country. I really cannot wait to go for the pilot trials once I graduate to book myself a place in the air force.

01 September 2008, Monday

First day of work. After reporting for work and going through the interview and orientation, I was transferred to my table. My bosses left me in charge of the department as one of them was away on a business trip, while the other was on a week’s leave. Both of them will only be back the next week or later, so I was left to hold the fort.

Being a responsible employee, I did all the work that was assigned to me before packing up the office as it was in a complete mess. By lunch time, everything was neatly in place. I cannot believe that I took less than half a day to pack the office which does not belong to me, and take forever to even start packing my own room.

02 September 2008, Tuesday

I practically had the entire day off no doubt being in the office. Boredom started to kick in after I found out that the administrator of the company’s server disabled all the game sites that I could think of, and worst of all, MSN. Since there was nothing I could really do, I started reading up on the health benefits of certain kinds of food on the internet. It was utterly boring and my eyes started tearing, but I gained substantial knowledge and I plan to drink more green tea because of the long list of benefits it possesses. Unsweetened green tea is good for you people, especially those who are dying to lose weight.

03 September 2008, Wednesday

I brought two magazines with me to work just in case I need them to help me kill time. Anyway, with regards to the magazine, they never really made it out of my bag because I just found out that reading other people’s blog was actually quite interesting. On another note, I found out that the radio on my table was functioning properly so I tuned it to my favourite radio station to put some life into the room since I am the only one occupying it now.

04 September 2008, Thursday

My bosses started assigning work to me via the telephone and I realised how busy I can really get when there is work for me to do. Still, I managed to complete all my work just before six in the evening.

05 September 2008, Friday

The radio played some really nice songs while I watched the “Happy Tree Friends” episodes on the computer. I really pity the cute characters in the episodes, but the show is rated as cartoon violence so you should understand what will happen to them. Anyway, I completed watching all the episodes by the end of the day. On the flipside, I called up some customers and suppliers to get my job done for the day.

06 September 2008, Saturday

I paid a visit to my secondary in the morning to see how the scout camp is going along. After that, I travelled down to my school to run and go to the gym with Mou Wei. I really exercised a lot in the gym, spending about one hour and thirty minutes there before heading down to town to look at some sports apparel. I only came home in the evening because Chester called me out to go shopping with him for some clothes, so I extended my shopping trip. This is the first time in so many months that I went Orchard to shop, due to the fact that most of my shopping is done in City Hall.

The Five Intangible C's

+ Care & Concern
+ Comfort
+ Commitment
+ Communication
+ Contentment

The Five Tangible C's

- Car
- Cash
- Condominium
- Country Club
- Credit Card

Funny isn't it? We often let material stuff and money rule over our lives and forget the intangible things that are priceless. Tangible things come with a costly price tag unlike intangible things, but they both have a limited lifespan. So what can last forever? Well, Christ is the answer. Jesus Christ. Yes, He is the way, the truth, and the life. Whoever believes in Him will have everlasting life and shall not perish when he or she dies. Let us make materialism secondary in our lives and focus on the intangible things that can be worked on and nurtured. Most of all, remember Christ for all that He has done for us.
